ABOUT US
THE ROLE
We are looking for a creative, self-driven communicator to join our team and help amplify our work. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping how our organisation speaks to the world – through our website, our reports, and our social media presence.
This is a role for someone who understands the nuance and care required when communicating about LGBTQ+ lived experiences, human rights, and community safety. You will work closely with our team but with real autonomy – we want someone who can take initiative, think on their feet, and bring fresh ideas to the table.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content & Copywriting
- Research, write, and publish articles, op-eds, and blog posts for our website on LGBTQ+ rights, policy developments, and community stories
- Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency with our organisational voice and values
- Write compelling copy for campaigns, newsletters, fundraising appeals, and other communications materials
- Support the development and formatting of reports, briefs, and publications for public and donor audiences
Social Media Management
- Create, schedule, and manage content across our social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Develop and maintain a content calendar aligned with our campaigns, advocacy priorities, and key dates
- Monitor engagement, respond to comments and messages with care and in line with our community guidelines
- Track performance metrics and share regular insights to help us refine our digital strategy
- Stay current on social media trends and identify opportunities to grow our audience and deepen engagement
Collaboration & Strategy
- Work closely with programme, advocacy, and leadership teams to translate our work into accessible, engaging content
- Contribute ideas for new content formats, storytelling approaches, and campaign concepts
- Identify opportunities to raise our profile through partnerships, media coverage, and digital collaborations
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential
- Proven experience in copywriting, content creation, or communications – professional, freelance, or voluntary
- Strong writing skills: clear, engaging, and adaptable to different audiences and tones
- Hands-on experience managing social media accounts (personal, organisational, or client)
- Deep commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and an understanding of the communities we work with
- Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and meet deadlines without close supervision
- Comfortable working remotely and collaborating with a distributed team
- Initiative – you spot opportunities, flag issues, and act without waiting to be asked
Desirable
- Experience working in or with NGOs, human rights organisations, or advocacy campaigns
- Familiarity with social media analytics tools (e.g. Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Later, or similar)
- Basic graphic design skills (e.g. Canva) for creating visual content
- Experience writing about sensitive topics – human rights, gender, sexuality, safety – with care and accuracy
- Knowledge of SEO principles for web content
WHAT WE VALUE IN THIS PERSON
Beyond the CV, we are looking for someone who brings:
- Creativity – You approach content with fresh eyes and are not afraid to try new things
- Curiosity – You stay informed, ask good questions, and are genuinely interested in the issues we work on
- Intuition – You have good instincts for what resonates with audiences and what does not
- Adaptability – You are open to feedback, willing to learn, and comfortable navigating ambiguity
- Heart – You care about this work and the communities it serves
WHAT WE OFFER
- Flexible, remote working arrangement – we care about output, not clock-watching
- A 6-month part-time contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding
- The chance to do communications work that genuinely matters
- A small, collaborative team that values your voice and ideas
- Compensation: Gh1,000
OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION
